President Tinubu Summons Emergency FEC Meeting to Honor Late President Buhari

President Bola Tinubu has summoned an emergency Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, to pay tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London after a prolonged illness.

In a personally signed tribute, President Tinubu described Buhari as "a patriot, a soldier, and a statesman whose legacy of service and sacrifice endures." Tinubu praised Buhari's commitment to democracy and his efforts to improve the lives of Nigerians. He also acknowledged Buhari's role in promoting stability and security in the country.

"I extend my deepest condolences to his beloved wife, Aisha, his children, the entire Buhari family, and all who knew and loved him," Tinubu said. "I also extend my condolences to the government and people of Katsina State, most especially the people and traditional leaders of Daura Emirate."

As a mark of respect, President Tinubu has directed that all national flags fly at half-staff across the country for seven days, starting from July 13, 2025. Buhari will be accorded full state honors, including a funeral befitting his "towering contributions to Nigeria."

The emergency FEC meeting will be held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and will bring together members of the FEC, government officials, and other stakeholders to honor Buhari's legacy and contributions to Nigeria.

Buhari served as Nigeria's military Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and later as a civilian president from 2015 to 2023. His leadership was marked by strong anti-corruption stances, infrastructure development, and a focus on agricultural self-reliance. He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
