Obedient Movement Petitions US, UK Over Governor Okpebholo's Comments on Peter Obi

The Obedient Movement has submitted petitions to the US Embassy and UK High Commission in Abuja, seeking a visa ban against Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State. The move comes after the governor's recent comments, which the group deemed provocative and threatening.

Governor Okpebholo had stated that Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, should notify him before visiting the state. The governor further claimed that if Mr. Obi were to visit without prior notice, his security would not be guaranteed.

The Obedient Movement took strong exception to the governor's comments, viewing them as an attempt to intimidate and restrict Mr. Obi's freedom of movement. In response, the group has petitioned the US and UK diplomatic missions, seeking a visa ban against Governor Okpebholo.

The petition is part of a broader campaign by the Obedient Movement to hold public officials accountable for their actions. The group argues that Governor Okpebholo's comments are unbecoming of a public official and demonstrate a lack of respect for democratic principles.

The Obedient Movement has announced plans to stage further protests at the United Nations Headquarters in Abuja, highlighting the international dimension of its campaign against Governor Okpebholo. The group's determination to escalate pressure on the governor underscores its commitment to promoting good governance and accountability in Nigeria.
