Niger State Government and Dangote Rice Limited Sign ₦1.8 Trillion Agreement

The Niger State government has signed a ₦1.8 trillion guaranteed paddy rice production and offtake agreement with Dangote Rice Limited. The agreement was signed through Niger Foods Security Systems and Logistics Ltd. and aims to foster sustainable agricultural development and food sufficiency in Nigeria.


According to the agreement, Niger Foods will supply high-quality paddy rice to Dangote Rice Limited. The partnership requires Niger State to develop 25,000 hectares of commercial rice farms and support 50,000 local farmers. The agreement is expected to create 50,000 direct jobs and boost rice production in the state.

The President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, stated that the signing of the agreement culminated a series of discussions aimed at promoting food production and ensuring food sufficiency in Nigeria. He emphasized that the private-public sector partnership model is the basis for solving economic, social, and political challenges.

Dangote Group has invested massively in rice mills and plantations across the country to create employment opportunities and promote food self-sufficiency and security. Niger State has now joined five other states where Dangote has rice mills under construction.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed delight and reassured that the state is poised to feed Nigeria. He stated that his administration understands the comparative advantage of water and arable land in Niger State and will leverage on that to promote agriculture and create employment opportunities.

The agreement is expected to reassure local rice farmers not to abandon paddy rice farming, as there is a guaranteed offtake of any quantity produced. The partnership between Niger State government and Dangote Rice Limited is a significant step towards promoting food security and economic development in the state.
