NDLEA Nabs Wanted Drug Kingpin, Makes Huge Seizures
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a notorious drug kingpin, Okechukwu Izugha (a.k.a Okey Omeogo), after a 12-month manhunt. Izugha was apprehended on July 9, 2025, at his wife's shop in Ijesha market, Lagos.
According to NDLEA officials, Izugha came under the agency's radar on August 7, 2024, after a 9kg cocaine consignment was recovered from a suspect, Obiora Joseph Agudosi, at a motor park in Orile, Lagos. Izugha was identified as the owner of the seized drug.
In a related development, the NDLEA made significant seizures, including 11.3kg of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis, concealed in microwaves imported from Thailand. The consignment was part of a consolidated cargo that arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Bangkok.
The agency also seized 400g of cocaine built into ladies' lipsticks, which were part of a cargo containing hair attachments, face powder, and other items heading to Malabo, Guinea.
In Edo State, the NDLEA destroyed 28,054.053kg of skunk, a local strain of cannabis, on three farms measuring over 11 hectares at Ewere Uzebba forest in Owan West local government area.
The agency also recovered 722,875 pills of opioids in Borno, Gombe, and Taraba states. In Borno, 18,759 ampoules of pentazocine, pills of tramadol, and rohypnol were seized from a suspect, Godwin Chimaobi Nwaobi.
Several suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures, including Ezenwegbu Chike, Ezeikwelume Prince Afam, Innocent Ejidiobo, and Friday Paul. The NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men of the agency for their efforts in the war against drug abuse.
The agency continues to pursue its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities across the country, delivering sensitization lectures to students and staff of various schools.
