NAF Achieves Year-Long Incident-Free Record, Strengthens Aviation Safety Standards

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has marked a significant milestone by completing a full year without any aircraft mishap, reaffirming its commitment to aviation safety, operational discipline, and professionalism. The achievement was announced by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, during the 2025 Safety Review Board (SRB) Meeting held at NAF Headquarters in Abuja.

According to Air Marshal Abubakar, the success reflects deliberate reforms and a proactive safety culture built on vigilance, accountability, and institutional foresight. The NAF has implemented several strategic initiatives to achieve this milestone, including:

- Expansion of safety training programs

- Strengthened oversight at all command levels

- Integration of predictive safety management systems

In 2025 alone, over 1,300 airmen and 157 officers have participated in safety induction training, bringing the total number of safety-trained personnel to 1,199. The CAS emphasized that universal safety education remains a top priority, stressing that technological advancements must be matched by equally robust safety infrastructure.

The NAF has also conducted safety evaluations and inspections, with 58 units evaluated and 31 undergoing safety inspections in the first half of 2025. Safety seminars have been held across commands to sustain awareness and compliance.

Air Marshal Abubakar urged commanders to maintain vigilance, calling for stronger unit-level accountability and continuous improvement. The meeting concluded with a renewed resolve to embed safety not as a checklist, but as a fundamental value that underpins every aspect of NAF operations.

This achievement demonstrates the NAF's commitment to prioritizing safety and professionalism, and serves as a testament to the effectiveness of its safety initiatives. The NAF's proactive approach to safety management will likely continue to yield positive results, ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.
