Labour Party Gives Peter Obi 48 Hours to Resign
The Labour Party has given former Presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, a 48-hour ultimatum to formally resign his membership of the party. This comes after Obi joined a coalition party, prompting the Labour Party to reiterate its disinterest in joining the coalition.
The party described the coalition as comprising power-mongers whose only interest is self-serving, rather than serving the people. In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party warned Nigerians that the often-mouthed "new Nigeria is Possible" is a ruse and cannot be achieved with the assemblage of old, recycled, desperate, and frustrated politicians in the coalition.
The Labour Party emphasized that desperate politicians cannot birth a new Nigeria, highlighting that the party's members should not be associated with individuals who have dual agendas or deceptive personas. The party stated that it will not tolerate members who have one leg in the Labour Party and another in a different party.
The party highlighted that nearly 70% of Nigeria's population are youths who are tired of the old order and gerontocrats deciding their fate. The Labour Party believes that the new Nigeria the youths are dreaming of cannot be realized through the coalition, which comprises opportunistic politicians interested only in relaunching themselves into power.
The National Publicity Secretary urged all Labour Party members to remain loyal and keep the party structure intact ahead of future elections. The party is willing to lead Nigerians along the trajectory of realizing a new Nigeria, emphasizing that its members should prioritize the party's interests and values.
