Gombe ACReSAL Distributes 1,000 Energy-Efficient Cook Stoves to Local Communities

The Gombe State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has distributed 1,000 energy-efficient cook stoves across nine communities within the Federal College of Education (Technical) catchment area. The distribution took place at the Community Education Resource Centre in Gombe.

ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, highlighted the initiative’s alignment with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s broader commitment to restoring degraded land and curbing environmental degradation. He emphasized that the stoves are designed for efficiency, using small amounts of briquettes, which would help low-income households reduce costs while minimizing deforestation caused by tree felling for cooking fuel.

The energy-efficient cook stoves are expected to have a positive impact on the environment and the lives of the beneficiaries. By using these stoves, households can reduce their reliance on traditional cooking methods, which often involve burning wood and other biomass fuels. This can help to reduce deforestation and promote sustainable living.

Beneficiaries Maryam Abubakar and Tijjani Labaran expressed heartfelt gratitude, citing the life-saving effects of ACReSAL’s gully erosion interventions and the improved livelihood opportunities now available to their communities. They appreciated the initiative and promised to use the stoves sustainably.

Representing the Senior District Head of Gombe, the District Head of Shamaki, Alhaji Usman Shamaki, praised the governor and ACReSAL for implementing impactful programs across Gombe State. He cautioned recipients against reselling or misusing the stoves, stressing the importance of community accountability.

The distribution of 1,000 energy-efficient cook stoves is a significant step towards promoting sustainable living and reducing environmental degradation in Gombe State. The initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of the beneficiaries and the environment, and it is a testament to the commitment of the Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration to environmental conservation.
