Edo State: Special Security Squad Arrests Notorious Cult Leaders, Recovers Guns and Illegal Arms

The Special Security Squad, Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists, has made significant strides in ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for the people of Edo State. In a recent operation, the squad arrested notorious cult leaders and members in Evboutubu, Benin City, and recovered guns and other illegal arms from their hideouts.


The squad, set up by Governor Monday Okpebholo, conducted a coordinated raid on several hotspots in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State on Friday, July 18, 2025. The operation was based on intelligence reports and investigation, and the team recovered weapons from suspected cult leaders arrested.

A member of the team, Ameloemen Idemudia Noah, emphasized that the operation is guided by professionalism and accountability, with community engagement remaining the hallmark of their operations. He noted that the team is getting cooperation from communities, who have complained bitterly about the operations of some of the arrested cult members.

Noah explained that the mandate of the team is to flush out kidnappers and cultism, but in the process of carrying out their duty, other crimes might surface. He emphasized that the killing and insecurity in the state must be stopped, and all criminal elements must be arrested and brought to book to ensure the state is safe for all Edo people.

The team is made up of the Military, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC), Hunters, Vigilante groups, and repentant cultists, among other critical stakeholders in Edo State. The team's composition reflects the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state's citizens.

The Edo State Security Squad's recent operation demonstrates the government's seriousness in addressing insecurity and cultism in the state. The team's efforts to engage with the community and gather intelligence reports are crucial in identifying and apprehending criminal elements. The squad's mandate to flush out kidnappers and cultists is a step in the right direction towards ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for the people of Edo State.
