Edo Govt Forms Committee to Address Mining Disputes in Dagbala
The Edo State Ministry of Mining has taken a significant step towards resolving the ongoing disputes between mining companies, new investors, and host communities in Dagbala, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area. The Ministry has constituted a five-man committee to investigate and proffer practicable solutions to the constant misunderstandings in the area.
The Committee was tasked with creating a seamless process for farmers, investors, and miners with regards to allocation of space for gold mining. It is also expected to register farmers for appropriate evaluation of their crops and proffer a workable plan to better ease the interactions of farmers and miners in the area. The Committee's responsibilities are aimed at promoting peace and understanding among the stakeholders in the mining sector.
The Committee's membership includes two representatives from the Ministry of Mining, two from Makana Makana Company, and one from the Community indigenes. This composition ensures that the Committee has a balance of government oversight, industry expertise, and local insights. According to the Commissioner for Mining, Hon. Andrew Ijegbai, the Committee's odd number composition allows for fair decision-making through voting.
The stakeholders, including representatives of various mining companies and host communities, have expressed their commitment to working with the Committee to resolve the disputes. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mining, Mrs. Omoruyi Ese, reiterated the need for all parties to work with the vision of the State Government. She emphasized that the Ministry is working tirelessly for the growth of the Community and that the Ministry is fair in its decisions.
The Permanent Secretary urged clan heads and youth of the Dagbala Community to be peace makers and not to stir up problems that will hinder the growth of the Community. She concluded that the Edo State Government aims to create a conducive environment for mining activities, which will benefit the State and the local Community.
