Delta Police Crack Down on Kidnappers: ₦5m Ransom Recovered, Suspects Arrested and Killed

The Nigeria Police Force Delta State Command has made significant breakthroughs in its fight against kidnapping and violent crime across the state. In a major operation, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad arrested five suspected kidnappers in Ogwashi-Ukwu, Oshimili North LGA. The suspects were found in possession of ₦5 million, part of the ransom paid by a recent victim.



The arrested suspects are believed to be responsible for multiple abductions in Ibusa, Ogwashi-Ukwu, Obulu-Okiti, Isele-Ukwu, and Asaba. The police operation was swift and precise, and the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation.

In a separate operation on July 9, 2025, the CP Special Assignment Team raided a kidnappers' hideout near the Unenurhei axis of the Patani-Ughelli Expressway. A fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the deaths of six suspects, while two others were hospitalized. The police recovered four locally made guns and 19 rounds of live cartridges.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reaffirmed the command's commitment to tackling criminal elements across the state. The police command is determined to rid the state of kidnappers and other violent criminals, and these recent operations demonstrate their resolve.

Investigations into both cases are ongoing, and the police are working to uncover the suspects' accomplices and dismantle their networks.
