Breaking News: Edo State Govt Compensates Rainstorm Victim with ₦2m
The Edo State Government has taken a significant step towards supporting its citizens in times of need by compensating a victim of a severe rainstorm that struck Benin City on February 20, 2025. Mr. Felix Jude Iredia, whose vehicle was destroyed in the incident, has been presented with a cheque of ₦2 million as a token of support.
The presentation ceremony, held on July 3, 2025, at the Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EdoSEMA) office, was attended by the Executive Secretary, Hon. Jerry Idahosa, and other dignitaries. Hon. Idahosa emphasized that the compensation is a fulfillment of Governor Okpebholo's core promise to prioritize the welfare of every Edo citizen.
The rainstorm, which caused the collapse of a billboard tower near the Mobil Filling Station along the Ekenwan-Siluko Interlink Road, resulted in the complete destruction of Mr. Iredia's vehicle. Fortunately, no life was lost in the incident. EdoSEMA promptly conducted an on-the-spot assessment, and the findings recommended immediate support.
The Edo State Government's commitment to supporting its citizens in times of need is evident in this gesture. Hon. Jerry Idahosa stated, "This ₦2 million compensation is a gesture to cushion the devastating impact Mr. Iredia suffered as a result of the February rainstorm. It is our sincere hope that such a tragic incident never occurs again."
Mr. Iredia expressed gratitude for the support, saying, "This support has restored hope to my life and that of my family. I sincerely thank Governor Okpebholo for this timely intervention."
The relief to Mr. Iredia is another testament to EdoSEMA's proactive disaster response, and it reinforces the Governor Okpebholo-led administration's dedication to ensuring that no citizen is left behind in times of need.
The compensation is expected to provide some relief to Mr. Iredia and his family, who were affected by the rainstorm. The gesture also demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting its citizens in times of need.
