Breaking News: Akwa Ibom Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Workers' Welfare

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to the welfare of workers in the state. The Governor made this declaration while speaking at the thanksgiving service to mark the Public Service Week 2025, held at the International Christian Worship Center, Uyo.

The Governor revealed that his administration has paid arrears of pensions and gratuities of over N60 billion out of the N98 billion inherited from past administrations dating back to 2012. He assured that the government stands poised to liquidate the backlog as more funds become available.

Governor Eno emphasized the importance of leveraging technology to improve service delivery in the civil service. He noted that his administration has intentionally and strategically deployed technology in the running of government business, creating the first stand-alone Ministry devoted to Science and Digital Economy.

The Governor highlighted the various portals set up to simplify government processes and eliminate wastages. These portals include the Arise Employment Portal and the Verification Portals, which have discovered and tracked over 2,000 ghost workers and another 3,000 persons who were fraudulently receiving pensions.

The Ministry of Science and Digital Economy has unified the mainstream Civil Service, with the State, Primary School, and Local Government Sectors under one fiscal control. This has eliminated individuals from collecting salaries from more than one source, making the system run efficiently and professionally.

The Governor announced that he has authorized the recruitment of 3,000 new workers into the civil service. He advised prospective applicants to apply through the State employment portal.

The Governor congratulated Barrister Victor Fabian of the Ministry of Justice and Ms. Itoro Ernest Udofia of the Ministry of Trade and Investment for their special promotion and cash rewards. He cited their passionate dedication to their jobs and urged other workers to take a cue from them.

The Governor congratulated the Head of Service, Elder Effiong Essien, and all workers in the State Civil Service for a successful Public Service Week celebration. He expressed his commitment to the welfare of workers and his administration's vision for a new civil service with a culture grounded in deliverables.
