BREAKING: Bayelsa Govt Announces Historic Agreement in Elepa Oil Fields Dispute, Allocates 40% to Elepa, 30% Each to Nembe and Egweama"

The Bayelsa State Government has successfully brokered peace among communities embroiled in a long-standing dispute over the ownership of the Elepa 1 and 2 Oil wells. The communities, Elepa, Nembe, and Egweama, in Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas, had been locked in legal battles over the oil wells operated by Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, formerly SHELL.

In a meeting at the Government House in Yenagoa, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, announced that the government had endorsed a sharing formula recommended by a committee set up to mediate the dispute. According to the formula, Elepa will receive 40% of all royalties, employment opportunities, and contractual jobs from Renaissance Africa Energy Company, while Egweama and Nembe will receive 30% each.

The Deputy Governor directed that the three contractors engaged under the company's Free To Operate (FTO) system should come under one contract and share the profits accordingly based on the sharing formula.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo commended the leaders and stakeholders of the area for their level-headedness and urged them to maintain peace and wait for the determination of the lawsuit over the ownership of the disputed oil wells at the Court of Appeal.

The communities have welcomed the government's initiative and have agreed to remain peaceful. The Paramount Ruler of Elepa Community, Chief Gelegukuma Apiri, the Chairman of the Nembe Council of Chiefs, Chief Bright Ereware-Igbeta, and the CDC Chairman of Egweama Community, Mr. Tonye Yemoleigha, thanked the government for its efforts in ensuring peace among the communities.

A Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the Bayelsa State Government and representatives of the three communities, marking a significant step towards resolving the dispute.

The government's decision was reached after careful consideration of various factors involved, and is seen as a sacrifice in the best interest of the communities and the state.
