Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health Hosts Correctional Centre Officials
The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, played host to a team of officers from the Yenagoa Correctional Services Centre led by the State Comptroller, Imo Okiapke, in his office in Yenagoa. The meeting aimed to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the State Ministry of Health and the Correctional Centre's Medical Clinic to improve healthcare services for inmates.
Prof. Brisibe thanked the team for their visit and assured them of the Ministry's commitment to working together to bring better healthcare services to the inmates. He emphasized the importance of partnership in healthcare delivery, particularly for vulnerable populations such as inmates.
The Commissioner commended health partners, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, for their efforts in disease surveillance and tackling public health emergencies in support of the State government. He highlighted that these partnerships had ensured that healthcare needs of inmates are integrated into the national health agenda, upholding the principles of equity, accountability, and justice.
The Comptroller of the Correctional Centre, Mr. Imo Ikiakpe, thanked Prof. Brisibe for the warm reception and stated that the visit was to solicit for mutual understanding and collaboration between the two institutions. Prof. Brisibe assured the team that the Ministry would continue to prioritize the health of all citizens, including those in custody, and work towards building trust among partners.
The meeting resulted in a commitment to strengthen collaboration between the State Ministry of Health and the Correctional Centre's Medical Clinic.
