Bayelsa Judge Regains Freedom After 12 Days in Captivity
Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro, a Judge of the Bayelsa High Court, has regained his freedom after being held captive by kidnappers for 12 days. The judge was abducted on June 21 by armed gunmen in front of an eatery in the Ekeki area of Yenagoa. Following a directive from Governor Douye Diri, security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS), worked tirelessly to track down the kidnappers and rescue the judge.
Governor Diri has commended the security agencies for their successful rescue operation. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the governor praised the combined efforts of the security agencies, particularly the DSS, for their relentless pressure on the kidnappers, which led to Justice Omukoro's freedom. Governor Diri assured residents of the state of their safety and security, warning criminally-minded individuals to steer clear of Bayelsa State.
The security agencies, led by the DSS, worked in collaboration with other sister agencies to coordinate the rescue efforts. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, had earlier appealed to the public not to lose trust in the security agencies, assuring that all efforts were being made to bring the judge back home safely.
Governor Diri stated that the criminals who fled due to the pressure would be arrested and brought to justice. The administration will continue to support the security agencies in carrying out their responsibilities. The governor called for greater support and cooperation from the people, assuring them that their security is a priority of the administration.
This successful rescue operation is a testament to the commitment of the security agencies to protecting the citizens of Bayelsa State. With Justice Omukoro's rescue, the state breathes a sigh of relief, and the security agencies have demonstrated their dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the people.
