Bayelsa Deputy Governor Urges NBA to Defend Rule of Law

The Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has renewed his call on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to leave no stone unturned towards ensuring that the rule of law is respected and obeyed in the country. Senator Ewhrudjakpo made the call during a courtesy call by the President of the NBA to his office in Government House, Yenagoa. The Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law, which is a fundamental aspect of any democratic society.



The Deputy Governor expressed deep concern over the state of affairs in the country, especially with regards to the rule of law. He noted that there was so much aberration in the land and called for concerted efforts and prayers to save the country from avoidable civil unrest. Senator Ewhrudjakpo warned that if nothing was done, it may lead to anarchy and complete breakdown of law and order. He stressed that the NBA has a critical role to play in promoting and defending the rule of law, and it is imperative that the association continues to speak out against any attempts to undermine the law.

The Deputy Governor emphasized the NBA's statutory role in defending constitutionalism and the rule of law. He urged the NBA to do more to ensure that the rule of law is respected and obeyed, especially in the face of increasing disregard for the law. Senator Ewhrudjakpo commended the NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, for his efforts in promoting the rule of law and defending the rights of Nigerians. He noted that the NBA's efforts are crucial in maintaining the integrity of the justice system and upholding the rule of law.

The NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, paid a solidarity visit to the Deputy Governor's office, standing by the NBA legal family, the Judiciary, and the State Government on its efforts towards securing the release of Justice Ebiyerin Umukoro. The NBA Boss commended the state government, the Bayelsa Chief Judge, Commissioner of Police, and other stakeholders for their show of concern, love, and practical measures taken to free the abducted high court judge. The NBA President's visit demonstrates the association's commitment to promoting the rule of law and defending the rights of Nigerians.
