Anioma People Commend Tinubu, APC for Supporting State Creation Request
The people of Anioma in Delta State have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for their unwavering support for the proposed creation of Anioma State from the current Delta State. The Anioma people, comprising nine predominantly Igbo-speaking local government areas, have been tirelessly advocating for the creation of a new state and are heartened by the priority given to their request.
The Anioma State creation campaign director of media and publicity, Chief Prince Osita Tonnie Oganah, commended President Tinubu and the APC for giving the Anioma people an opportunity to have a state of their own. Oganah noted that the creation of Anioma State would help properly balance the federation, which is currently skewed against the Igbo. He emphasized that the state would be viable, with abundant oil, gas, and mineral resources, and would not require new and expensive capital projects, as it already has a modern and functional State House and other infrastructure.
The proposed Anioma State would be a significant addition to the Nigerian federation, with its rich natural resources and existing infrastructure. The state would have a strong economic foundation, with potential for growth and development. The creation of Anioma State would also provide the Anioma people with greater autonomy and representation in the federal government, enabling them to participate more effectively in the decision-making process.
The group also commended the two senators from Delta State, Joel Onowakpo and Ede Dafinone, for supporting the Anioma State creation request. Oganah described the current Anioma Senator from Delta North, Ned Nwoko, as the champion and arrowhead of the struggle, supported by traditional rulers, youths, artisans, market women, and the thriving business, political, and academic elite. The support of these senators is a testament to the growing momentum behind the Anioma State creation movement.
The quest for Anioma State began in the 1950s under the leadership of Ojiba Ahaba Dennis Osadebe, supported by several other notable individuals. The creation of Anioma State would be a significant milestone in the history of the Anioma people and would provide them with greater autonomy and representation in the federal government. The Anioma people have been patiently waiting for this moment, and their determination and perseverance are a testament to their commitment to their cause.
