ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CO-OPERATIVES, REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES
The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening co-operative societies as vital tools for inclusive and sustainable development in the state. Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Industry, Hon. Christian Udechukwu, made this declaration during the celebration of the International Day of Co-operatives held at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat complex, Awka on July 5, 2025.
The Governor's commitment to co-operatives is a call to action for Ndi Anambra to remain active participants in the ongoing transformation of the state. He reminded the gathering that the forthcoming gubernatorial election is a crucial opportunity to consolidate on the gains of the Solution Government. "Let us support the continuity of good governance with our voices, our actions, and our votes," he charged.
The Anambra Small Business Agency (ASBA) has structured financial support models in place to support co-operatives. The agency's Managing Director/CEO, Clement Chukwuka, outlined the SME funding category (up to ₦50 million) and the Micro category (up to ₦5 million), which are particularly accessible to co-operatives. ASBA has also implemented impactful schemes, including the IGWEBUIKE Micro Co-operative Solution Scheme, ASBA/Solution 1 Youth 2 Skill working capital, and the Civil Servants Solution Entrepreneurship Loan Scheme.
Dr. Ogochukwu Soludo, President of Co-operative Federation of Anambra State (COFAS), emphasized the urgent need to reposition the Co-operative sector for greater efficiency and impact. COFAS has renewed its mandate to redeem, revitalize, and reposition co-operative societies across the state through membership validation, proper registration, and accountability audits.
The Anambra State Government's commitment to co-operatives is expected to have a positive impact on the state's economy.
