Anambra Security: CP Orutugu Urges Residents to Expose Criminals Masquerading as Self-Government Agitators

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, has called on residents to support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security in the state by exposing criminal elements operating under the guise of self-government agitation. This appeal comes amid recent intelligence reports indicating that criminals are taking advantage of separatist sentiments to perpetrate violent crimes, including extortion, abduction, and targeted attacks on innocent citizens.

The CP noted that the activities of these criminal elements are not only detrimental to the safety and security of the state but also undermine the legitimate aspirations of the people. He urged residents, especially community leaders and youth groups, to help distinguish between legitimate advocacy and the activities of those exploiting unrest for personal gain.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command's commitment to working with local communities, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and relevant stakeholders to dismantle criminal networks and ensure a secure environment for all. He emphasized that the safety and progress of Anambra lies in the collective resolve to say no to violence and criminality in any form.

The CP acknowledged the State's historical pride of being peaceful, tolerant, innovative, industrious, and entrepreneurial. He noted that the people of Anambra have always been known for their resilience and determination, and that these values are essential in the fight against crime and insecurity.

The Commissioner of Police urged residents to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the police. He assured the public that all reports would be treated with confidentiality and that the police would work tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for crimes are brought to justice.

The public is advised to call the Command Control Room Number on 07039194332 or PPRO on 08039334002 for prompt response in the event of a request for any security services. The police are committed to serving the people of Anambra State and ensuring that the state remains safe and secure for all.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka, issued the statement on July 10, 2025. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police and the public in the fight against crime and insecurity.
