Akwa Ibom State Government Signs MOU with UNDP to Actualize ARISE Agenda

The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken a significant step towards actualizing the ARISE Agenda by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The signing ceremony, which took place at the Government House in Uyo, was attended by Governor Umo Eno and the UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, Mrs. Elsie Attafuah.



The partnership between the Akwa Ibom State Government and the UNDP is aimed at promoting the ARISE Agenda and creating jobs for the people of the state. The UNDP team visited the state to build on the vision of the Governor and strengthen collaboration between the State and the organization. Mrs. Attafuah commended the State for standing out as an excellent model for other Sub-Nationals in its health, education, and aviation sectors.

The MOU identifies five key areas of collaboration between the State government and the UNDP, including:

- *Tourism*: Developing the state's tourism sector to promote economic growth and job creation.

- *Blue Economy*: Harnessing the state's marine resources to promote sustainable economic development.

- *Skills Acquisition and Innovation*: Developing the skills and innovative capacities of the state's youth.

- *Broad Governance*: Strengthening governance structures and institutions in the state.

- *Finance Development*: Improving the state's financial management and development.

The partnership between the Akwa Ibom State Government and the UNDP is expected to promote the ARISE Agenda and create jobs for the people of the state. The UNDP's high-tech expertise will help to transform the state significantly, and the State government has assured the UNDP team of an office accommodation in Uyo to ease their operations.

Governor Umo Eno has assured the UNDP team that the State government will be committed to its part of the agreement to successfully drive the process. He highlighted the government's plan to open Youth-Friendly Centres in all 31 Local Government Areas of the state to develop the skills, creativity, and innovative ideas of young people. The Governor also appreciated the UNDP team for their support and willingness to work with the State government to foster much development among the people and overall growth of the state.
