Abia State Government Warns Against PVC Information Scam
The Abia State Government has issued a warning against politicians who are allegedly deploying agents to various wards to fraudulently obtain information contained on the Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) of unsuspecting rural dwellers. The agents are said to be offering Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000) each to the victims under the guise of creating a non-existent e-wallet for empowerment.
The government views this act as irresponsible and warns that any person or persons caught indulging in this act of criminality shall face severe consequences. The government's concern is that the intention of the sponsors and perpetrators of this criminal act is to compromise the authenticity of the PVCs and render the owners unfit to vote during the 2027 election.
The Abia State Government has carried out various empowerment programmes for the youths and the elderly across the state, including the Abia State Interest Free Loan Empowerment Scheme, Abia Techrise Project, and Training of Abia Youths in Agricultural Skills. These programmes are designed to benefit the citizens without politicization and without attaching questionable preconditions.
The government warns that any person or persons caught indulging in this act of criminality shall face severe consequences, beyond their imagination. The government is determined to protect the rights of its citizens and ensure that they are not disenfranchised.
The government calls on Abians, especially rural dwellers, to distance themselves from any individual or group who may approach them for the purpose of obtaining information contained on their PVCs or any other personal information that may disenfranchise or endanger them. Citizens are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
The Abia State Government's warning against the PVC information scam is a timely intervention that aims to protect the rights of its citizens. The government's commitment to carrying out empowerment programmes without politicization and questionable preconditions is a welcome development. The government's warning to perpetrators and call to action to citizens are clear indications of its determination to address this issue.
