Abia Governor Charges Appointees to Develop Robust Training Programmes

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has directed his appointees and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to develop robust training and capacity-building programmes for their establishments. The governor made this directive at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Abia State Quarter 2 Executive Council Strategy Retreat, held at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Umuahia.

According to Governor Otti, the training programmes should incorporate critical learning areas such as ICT, communication, stakeholder management, and value creation. He emphasized the importance of training and mentorship in supporting individuals to become better versions of themselves and better employees.

The governor also mandated the training of 1,000 young people between the ages of 16 and 20 on leadership capacity development, character building, and self-discovery. The training programme will be conducted outside the academic environment and will focus on equipping young people with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their respective fields.

Governor Otti announced plans to establish an academy to facilitate scheduled training for government employees. The academy will provide a platform for employees to acquire new skills and knowledge, and to enhance their performance.

The governor also announced plans to extend mentorship and capacity-building initiatives to young people in secondary schools and tertiary institutions across the state. This initiative aims to equip young people with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their chosen careers.

The governor directed that the youth training programme should be conducted between the first week of August and the second week of September, when students are expected to be on vacation. He emphasized that the programme should be institutionalized, conducted periodically, and properly certificated.

Governor Otti's directives demonstrate his commitment to capacity building and youth development in Abia State. The training programmes will equip government employees and young people with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their respective fields. The establishment of an academy and the extension of mentorship and capacity-building initiatives to young people in secondary schools and tertiary institutions are also expected to have a positive impact on the state's development.
