Abia Gov Tasks Ohanaeze on Restoration of Lost Igbo Values

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has tasked the Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership on the restoration of lost moral values that the Igbos are known for in the past. The Governor made the call while receiving the executive members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Abia State Chapter, in his office. He urged the leadership to embark on projects that inspire collective ownership and involvement of the Igbos.

Governor Otti emphasized the need for the society to return to the good old days where people were dignified, proud, and hardworking. He noted that the new culture of people not speaking their language, not knowing their culture, and not caring, has contributed to the high level of crime and insecurity.

The Governor encouraged Ohanaeze to reach out to all Igbo people to make contributions, so they can feel a sense of ownership and belonging. He cited an example of a fundraising for the security trust fund in Abia State, which raised N4.1 billion.

Governor Otti assured that he would look into Ohanaeze's requests and support them within the context of competing needs for the State. He also promised to personally help offset their office rent.

The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Abia State Chapter, Dr. Chukwuemeka Okwuonu, commended Governor Otti for making Igbo language a compulsory subject in primary and secondary schools in the State. He noted that their mission is to ensure that the younger generation imbibes the culture of hard work, sincerity, and dignity in labor.
