Abia, Enugu Governors Pledge to Enhance Security in South East
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has pledged to collaborate with the government of Enugu State and other brother Governors in the South East to enhance security in the region. Governor Otti made this commitment during a closed-door meeting with the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Mba, who visited him in his office.
Governor Otti emphasized the importance of security cooperation between the two states, noting that they share boundaries and that criminals driven away from one state may end up in the other. He stated that the governments of Enugu and Abia States would partner to ensure that their people are secured in those places.
The Abia State Governor also expressed support for the creation of State police, a position shared by many other states. He expressed hope that the Federal government would consider their position in the near future, noting that security is a local issue.
Governor Otti also affirmed his support for the call for the creation of an additional State in the South East region. He noted that the South East is the only region across the six geo-political zones that has less than six states, and that the creation of an additional state would help to address the region's unique challenges.
The Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mba, stated that his visit was centered on providing a better life for the people of Enugu and Abia States. He commended Governor Otti for the giant strides he has made in Abia State and noted that their programmes and policies would have far-reaching impacts on the two states.
The meeting between the two governors highlights the importance of cooperation and collaboration in addressing security challenges in the South East region. By working together, the governments of Abia and Enugu States can enhance security and provide a better life for their citizens. The commitment to state police and the creation of an additional state in the South East region demonstrates the governors' determination to address the region's unique challenges.
