Vice President Shettima Inaugurates Nutrition 774 Initiative Board to Combat Malnutrition

Vice President Kashim Shettima has inaugurated the Strategic Board of the Nutrition 774 Initiative, a decisive step by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to address the malnutrition crisis threatening lives and development across Nigeria. The new board serves as a war room assembled to win the battle against malnutrition in every corner of the country.



Describing malnutrition as a national emergency, Shettima emphasized that it poses both health and security threats to Nigeria, requiring immediate, coordinated action across all 774 local government areas. He urged members of the newly inaugurated board to treat their appointment as a call to urgent national duty, stressing that this is not a trivial matter but a mission to save lives and safeguard the nation's future ¹.


The Nutrition 774 Initiative is designed to improve coordination, Harmonize efforts to end duplication and build a single, unified framework for measurable impact

Provide critical nutrition support to mothers and children across all communitiesd and adress issues of economic empowerment for women, particularly in female-headed households and drive implementation at scale through state governors and local government chairmen.


Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu commended the Vice President for championing the food security and nutrition initiative, saying it will reduce poverty and enhance social cooperation.

Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim called for the empowerment of women, observing that it's an issue of poverty in a country where the majority of households are female-headed and children-headed due to crises.

Chairman, House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, Chike Okafor lauded the initiative as a step in the right direction, assuring legislative backing and support.
