NIGERIA CDS VOWS TO END BANDITRY, HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST ADEYANJU ADEYAMI CALLS IT "EMPTY PROMISES''
Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Gwabin Musa vowed to end banditry in the country, sparking a sharp rebuke from prominent human rights activist and lawyer, Adeyanju Adeyemi.
In a recent Facebook post, Adeyemi questioned the sincerity of General Musa's vow, pointing out that the energy spent on making promises could be better channeled towards achieving tangible results. "Our CDS always vowing," Adeyemi said. "The energy used on making all these vows is enough to get the job done."
The activist expressed frustration with what he perceives as a pattern of empty promises from the country's top military brass. "I have never seen a Service Chief that talks as much as this CDS," he added. "Even the people that get the job done don’t vow this much."
Adeyemi's criticism comes against the backdrop of persistent insecurity in Nigeria, which has been plagued by banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes. The activist's remarks suggest that many Nigerians are growing increasingly skeptical of the military's ability to deliver on its promises.
The development raises questions about the effectiveness of the military's strategy in tackling insecurity and whether General Musa's vow will translate into concrete action on the ground.
