NGSF and UNICEF Strengthen Partnership to Advance Child Protection

The Nigeria Governors' Spouses Forum (NGSF) received a high-level delegation from the Child Protection Unit of UNICEF Nigeria on June 23, 2025. The meeting aimed to deepen partnership and accelerate state-specific interventions in critical areas of child protection.

The NGSF Chairperson, Ambassador Professor Olufolake Abdulrazaq, First Lady of Kwara State, led the meeting, which included First Ladies from various states. The parties discussed strategies to prevent Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), establish Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs), promote birth registration, and prevent child marriage.

The meeting resulted in a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to child protection and the advancement of child rights. UNICEF presented a framework outlining the next steps toward implementation, with activities scheduled to commence in identified pilot states.

The NGSF remains committed to leveraging the collective voice, influence, and advocacy capacity of the First Ladies to ensure that no child is left behind on the path to safety, dignity, and opportunity.

The partnership between the NGSF and UNICEF is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of children in Nigeria, particularly in the areas of child protection and rights.
