Invest in Prevention" Theme Highlights Importance of Collective Action Against Drug Abuse

As the world marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, First Lady of Imo State, Chief Barr. (Dr.) Chioma Uzodimma, has emphasized the need for collective action in combating drug abuse. The theme for this year's celebration, "The Evidence Is Clear: Invest in Prevention," underscores the importance of effective prevention strategies in addressing the scourge of drug abuse.

Chief Uzodimma noted that substance abuse touches every corner of society, affecting individuals regardless of their background, education, or economic status. She highlighted the human cost of drug abuse, including families torn apart, dreams deferred, and people struggling to heal.

The First Lady called on individuals, families, schools, and civil society organizations to join forces in combating drug abuse. She emphasized the need for early intervention and addressing underlying risk factors, such as trauma and social isolation, to prevent drug abuse.

Chief Uzodimma urged everyone to commit to turning awareness into sustained action. Through collective efforts, she said, we can foster a world where hope triumphs over despair. She reaffirmed her commitment to this cause through the Goodhope Women Flourish Initiative (GHWFI) and the Renewed Hope Initiative.

As we commemorate this important day, let us join hands in the fight against drug abuse. Together, we can make a difference and create a brighter future for all.
