Governor Fintiri's Administration Transforms Agriculture and Livestock in Adamawa State

The government of Adamawa State, under the leadership of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has implemented several initiatives to boost the agriculture and livestock sub-sectors. These initiatives are designed to promote food security, economic growth, and sustainable development in the state.

The government allocated ₦2 billion to provide agricultural inputs for the 2025 farming season. Additionally, the 300-Hectare-Per-LGA Food Security Program was launched to empower youth with land and free inputs, promoting food self-sufficiency across all 21 LGAs in the state.

Furthermore, the government reintroduced extension services and expanded irrigation systems, which have enhanced crop yields and food security in the state. The administration also improved rural roads and market access, boosting agricultural productivity and farmer income.

A strategic partnership between ADAS-P and Aluvia Agriculture aims to scale agribusiness in Adamawa State. Under this partnership, a 100-hectare soybean pilot project was launched in Demsa LGA, and a 400-hectare oil palm plantation project was initiated in Kiri, Toungo LGA, emphasizing community ownership and long-term sustainability.

The government also distributed free farm inputs, including irrigation pumps, fertilizers, and equipment, to support smallholder farmers. A statewide pest control initiative was launched to protect major crops from infestation, starting in Demsa LGA.

Adamawa State plays a key role in implementing the National Livestock Transformation Plan to modernize livestock production. A pilot ranch was inaugurated at Gongoshi Grazing Reserve to demonstrate structured and sustainable livestock farming.

The government prioritized the rehabilitation of grazing reserves, equipping them with water, veterinary services, and access roads to support modern livestock management. Gongoshi serves as a model for integrated ranching systems in the state.

The Mubi livestock market supplies 29 million animals annually and contributes ₦29 billion to the economy. Improved market infrastructure has further strengthened the livestock sector and its economic output.

Adamawa State is projected to produce 220 million bags of grain and ₦36 billion in IGR over ten years through agricultural growth. Over the next decade, the state expects to produce nearly 30 million livestock animals, driving significant economic growth.

Dialogue and policy reforms have helped reduce farmer-herder conflicts and promote peaceful coexistence. Grazing reserves and ranching have eased farmland pressure and minimized resource-based conflicts between farmers and herders.

In January 2025, 23,000 livestock farmers received inputs and equipment from the state government, further supporting the development of the livestock sector .
