Armed Fulani Herdsmen Terrorize Nasarawa-Benue Border Communities

Communities along the Benue-Nasarawa border are living in fear as heavily armed Fulani herdsmen reportedly roam freely, terrorizing displaced locals and grazing their cattle on farmlands. The affected areas include Kwara, Angwan Yaaara, Antsa in Keana Local Government Area, and Dooga, Doka, Gborgyor, Ankoma, Ajimaka, and Rukubi in Doma LGA of Nasarawa State.

Albert Alberto Ukosu, a resident of Dooga, shared his distressing experience, stating that the herdsmen are not only grazing their cattle but also carrying AK-47s openly, with no government intervention. "We can't access our home despite our cry to the government. These herdsmen are not just grazing, they are carrying AK-47s openly, and nobody is saying anything," Ukosu lamented.

The communities, once peaceful agricultural areas, now lie in fear and abandonment. Residents and local farmers have been forced to flee, leaving behind their means of livelihood. The Tiv Communities are appealing to the federal and state governments to take immediate action to secure these border towns and restore peace.

With the rainy season underway, displaced farmers fear they may not be able to plant this year, threatening food security in the region. "From Keana to Doma, our people are not safe. We are Nigerians too, and we deserve protection," Ukosu emphasized.

This incident is not isolated, as similar attacks have been reported in the region. In a recent incident, over 200 locals, including internally displaced persons, were massacred by criminal Fulani herdsmen in Yeluwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
